Congratulations to the Linda Hall Library’s Digital Initiatives Unit, which recently received a Certificate of Appreciation from the American Chemical Society’s Division of History of Chemistry (HIST) for its contributions to HIST’s Citations for Chemical Breakthrough Award Program.

HIST selected the Linda Hall Library to receive the  Certificate of Appreciation for providing high-quality digital scans from archival chemistry journals, often on an emergency basis, over the past seventeen years. Certificates of Appreciation are awarded to individuals and organizations based on service to or advocacy on behalf of the American Chemical Society.

Since 2006, HIST has celebrated seminal achievements in chemistry and molecular sciences with the Citations for Chemical Breakthrough Award, which recognizes breakthrough publications, books, and patents worldwide in the field of chemistry. Award recipients receive a custom plaque honoring their achievements. The plaques contain key texts and/or graphics from the journal or book in which the breakthrough was first announced. HIST uses the scans provided by the Linda Hall Library’s Digital Initiatives Unit to create graphics for manufacturing the award plaques.

Our colleagues at the Linda Hall Library are the best at what they do and are stewards of rare books and advocates for public access.
