A Nation of Climates: Agriculture, Climatology, and Nation-Building in the Argentine Patagonia, 1865-1950

Carlos S. Dimas is an assistant professor of History at the University of Nevada Las Vegas. He received his PhD from the University of California, Riverside. He interests include medical history, environmental history, and the history of science in Latin America. His book, The Poisoned Eden: Global Disease, Local Environments, and Cultural Change in Northwestern Argentina, 1865-1916, is under contract with University of Nebraska Press. 

His current research is on the development of the field of meteorology in Argentina, and its role in nation-building. During his time at the Linda Hall Library he will be researching the expansion of Argentine meteorological stations into Patagonia and the South Atlantic Ocean.
